Application

The Applications must include

• Letter of motivation (signed by the applicant and max. 1 page)
• Curriculum vitae (in tabular form, signed and dated, max. 1 page)
• Outline of the research concept of about 3 to 4 pages. Please use the provided template - Template download
  The planned research should be connected to an ongoing CGIAR⁺⁺ research program or project. Your time at the CGIAR⁺⁺ center or the German research institute is exclusively for research, not for thesis writing. Keep this in mind when drafting the work plan. Please include the date of the planned departure or the start of work abroad.
• Hosting agreement from the respective CGIAR⁺⁺ center. Please use the provided template - Template download
• Letter of recommendation and supervision confirmation from the German university supervisor, stating that s:he will supervise the research concept. Please use the provided template - Template download. The Letter of recommendation and supervision confirmation has to be sent by the recommending scientist as PDF by e-mail to hub@cifor-icraf.org.

After acceptance

Once you are accepted into the Junior Scientists Program, we will provide a Letter of Agreement for you and your CGIAR⁺⁺ supervisor to sign. This agreement will be between you, your CGIAR++ supervisor, and CIFOR-ICRAF. Additionally, you will need to complete a form with your bank details, which will be used only for your scholarship payment.

Before you travel abroad, you must obtain international health and liability insurance covering the whole research stay. This insurance needs to cover necessary medical transfers back home, as well as international liability insurance.

To initiate your scholarship payment, we require

·        the signed Letter of Agreement and bank details

·        along with proof of your health and liability insurance.

After your time abroad, you must submit a final report on your experience, as well as fill out an evaluation form provided by the Germany-CGIAR++ Science and Impact Hub.

Your scholarship will be paid in two installments:

·        Payment 1: €5,500 will be transferred at the beginning of your stay.

·        Payment 2: €500 will be sent at the end of your stay, once you submit your report.

Because of security issues, there are a number of countries which cannot be traveled to, please consult the country recommendations of the German Foreign Office for advice. The first information about this can be found on the website of the German Foreign Office: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/ReiseUndSicherheit/reise-und-sicherheitshinweise. Be aware, that the list is regularly updated, and countries might be added according to changing security situations. In case you are in doubt about your target country, please contact us in time.

Please note, that you are responsible for organizing your own visa. Your visa must respond to the entry regulations of the research center. The research center is responsible to assist in visa issues. Please contact your supervisor as soon as possible for the necessary invitation or other required documents.

Please be aware that The Hub is providing scholarships and is not responsible for the establishment of the research cooperation, the content of the envisaged research project and any logistical support (e.g. accommodation, flight, etc.) during the career exploration scholarship. We are, however, always eager to help if possible.
